After reading the play Merchant of Venice, I felt that Shylock was a cruel and selfish character.
He trapped Antonio into signing an evil bond demanding a pound of flesh. He repeatedly refused offers from Bassanio and other merchants to show mercy on Antonio.
In the end when Portia won the argument, he behaved cumningly and asked for his money instead of demanding Antonio’s flesh.
Shylock is a character in a William Shakespeare's play,
The Merchant of Venice. Shylock is a Venetian Jewish moneylender who is the play's principal antagonist.
He is always against Antonio and loathes him.
In the climax of the play, he converts into Christian and accepts his defeat.
He is one of the most complex characters of Shakespeare.
Yeah I agree that Shylock was not the only at fault, it was Antonio who always used to treat him badly in the public and used to insult him like anything. Shylock could do nothing at that point of time bcoz Antonio had a great support of public and so I won't say that Antonio was a good guy and he was the only guy who provoked the demon inside Shylock. Well what Shylock did was really wrong bcoz Antonio never did something closer to it even and so this decision to take off Antonio's life was seriously bad.
